Look, Mom, no hands!

Play this fun activity with your little one to practice maintaining himself in an upright position and so building the strength to sit unsupported.

For this activity, you will need:

  • A large pillow or feeding pillow
  • Some toys

To play:

  1. Place your baby in a sitting position with his legs spread wide for a good base of support and surrounded by cushions or feeding pillows. He may still be unstable and the cushions will help to break the fall if he does collapse to the side.
  2. Place a toy right in front of him, between his legs and encourage him to use his arms and hands to play with it.
  3. Do not expect him to make huge movements to either side with the toy, as he won’t yet have developed the control to move around with it. Instead, try to keep him interested in the toy for as long as possible so that he is playing with his hands, not using them to support his body
